*Getting Antsy*
A week from today, I will be in Boston! I never thought in a million years I would qualify for the Boston Marathon. It seems like this trip has been a long time coming. I qualified in October 2008 and decided to wait for a full year before training again. I officially registered this last September and to make it more "official" we got our airplane tickets and hotel by the end of October. Training started right after Christmas, 16 weeks later, its HERE! Yikes.
It hasn't been an easy road, but I will take what I get. Hotels are impossible to find in Boston, even in October. It is ridiculous! We aren't staying at the nicest place in town, but it will do. Training was awesome for the first 8 weeks and then it all went down the tube. I guess that is what happens. You can't be the lucky person all the time.
When you think about, it is really just about the experience. Considering Boston is like the World Series of marathon races, I am just thrilled to be able to say that I did it. I am not running for a time anymore, I am running to just have a good time. Most people would say that running 26.2 miles isn't for a "good time" and I probably won't be smiling while doing it, but I always be able to say that "I ran the Boston Marathon". Most runners aspire to get a BQ time and most never will, so I just need to be proud of myself for getting there. :)
It will be a quick trip for the most part. Cam booked the red eye from Spokane on Friday night so we don't get into Boston until 6:30 Saturday morning. From there it will probably be breakfast, hooking up with Cass and Scott, marathon expo, and then....a RED SOX game!!!! Yay! Not sure what we will do on Sunday, but the marathon is on Monday at 10:30. Monday is also Cassie's bday so I am sure we will do something fun after for her. Tuesday, Cass and Scott leave and then we leave on Wednesday. I really want to go to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, but I don't know if we will have time for it on this trip.
I have no intentions of ever running a marathon again, so this trip is for the Boston experience. Maybe we can go back another time and really be tourists. :)
